Revolutionizing Digital Diagnostics with Ben Cahoon

Episode Summary

Today I'm joined by another great CEO from the Silicon Slopes - Ben Cahoon, Chief Executive Officer at Techcyte, here in Utah. Techcyte is a clinical pathology AI platform that is revolutionizing digital diagnostics. Techcyte is cloud-based digital microscopy software, founded in 2014, that uses machine learning to identify and classify cell types and visible organisms to provide powerful pre-analysis of biological samples. We talk about the impact that the early Utah companies like Word Perfect and Novelle had on the success of the Silicon Slopes, how life is too short to hang out with people who come from scarcity; better to hang out with people who share freely. We also discuss the impact it had on Ben when his mentor told him: "As a human, you really can't understand how big a market is." We talk about being successful as a remote-first company, and a whole lot more! I think you'll really enjoy this!

Episode Notes

Techcyte began as an idea to classify white blood cells using computer vision from Dr. Mohamed Salama which was purchased by Ralph Yarro in a technology transfer from the University of Utah in 2013. Since that initial idea, Techcyte has led the cellular digital pathology revolution by combining the knowledge and skills of a lab professional or pathologist with the latest deep learning technologies to provide the healthcare industries with digital diagnostic solutions.

Techcyte believes that individual cells hold clues to diagnosing disease. By analyzing cell morphology, phenotypic characteristics can reveal genotype, conditions, and diseases, getting us closer to providing precision medicine.
